Grief And Loss: Together in Healing

Grieving and Healing

Grieving the loss of a loved one can be one of the most profound and difficult experiences in life. It can evoke unpleasant emotions, from sadness and anger, to confusion and guilt, making it quite hard to stay present in your daily life. Because our loved ones matter to us, grieving their loss is challenging and painful.

Grief and Loss can lead to being unable to deal with your feelings of sadness, emptiness, or despair from a significant loss<br />

When mental skills training can be useful

Mental skills training can be useful in a variety of contexts where enhancing cognitive and emotional functioning can improve performance, well-being, and resilience. Here are some key areas where mental skills training can be particularly beneficial:

Persisting Sadness

Unable to deal with your feelings of sadness, emptiness, or despair from a significant loss

Physical Symptoms

Experiencing prolonged physical symptoms such as fatigue, sleeping issues or big swings in appetite

Loss of Interest

Diminished interest in activities and social events that were previously enjoyed.

Feeling Misundestood

Feeling that others don’t understand the depth of your grief, leading to feelings of isolation.

Struggling to accept the reality of the loss, often feeling shocked or stunned.

How we can help

While grief is a painful process, it is a necessary and normal one – it is a reflection of our human nature to feel sadness in the face of losing something that we held dear. Fortunately, you do not need to process your loss alone – close family and friends can be an important part of your journey of healing. Additionally, seeking help from a counsellor can be a very helpful way to manage overwhelming feelings and develop healthy coping strategies. Whether you are dealing with a recent loss, or are struggling with unresolved grief from the past, our counsellors at Strive provide a safe space to express your feelings, explore meaningful memories, and honour your loved one.

Art Therapy

Techniques include storytelling, re-authoring one’s story, and exploring the impact of the loss on one’s identity and future.

Overcoming Grief and Loss
